Our Mission

The mission statement for Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy is to provide a training center dedicated to the practical and relevant training of Ontario’s volunteer and full time firefighters, and those aspiring to be firefighters. These training services are provided on a non-profit basis, and deal with all aspects of fire department services. Training courses offered are designed to provide quality, relevant and affordable instruction to meet the needs of new recruits on a fire department, as well as the more experienced firefighter.

Mandate

The mandate of the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy is to establish, maintain and operate a center for the education, instruction and advancement of knowledge of volunteer firefighters in the techniques of fire prevention, firefighting, rescue work, disaster preparation and related subjects; for the objects aforesaid to own real property to be developed and operated as a training center; and to collect monies by way of grants, donations, dues, gifts, devices and bequests, and to hold, invest, spend or deal with same in furtherance of the objects of the corporation.The training courses deal with all aspects of fire department services. Training courses offered are designed to provide quality, relevant and affordable instruction to meet the needs of the new recruits of a fire department, as well as the more experienced firefighters. Training courses offered include techniques in fire prevention, firefighting, rescue work, emergency & disaster preparation and related subjects.

Location

Based in Norwood, a small village outside of the City of Peterborough Ontario. We have delivered emergency services training to personnel and agencies from: Peterborough, Northumberland, Hastings, Prince Edward Counties and the cities of Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.  Our 20 acre site presents live training situations, including: Search & Rescue Maze,  Confined Space, 3 Storey Burn Tower,  Flashover Unit and much more.

History

Incorporated in 1984, our present facility has a 40 – 50 student capacity, 3 classrooms, cafeteria and administrative offices. Our clients have included municipal fire departments and private sector corporations such as, Canadian General Electric and Lakefield Research. It was constructed in 1985 by a team of volunteers lead by Training Officer Jim Smith. At the time – it was known as Eastern Ontario Volunteer Fire Fighters Training Centre.

Safety Training for Today’s World

Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy prides itself on providing quality training to municipal fire departments, commercial industry, and community college fire fighting training programs. The EOETA is based in Norwood, a small village outside of the City of Peterborough Ontario. We have delivered emergency services training to personnel and agencies from: Peterborough, Northumberland, Hastings, Prince Edward Counties and the cities of Kawartha Lakes.  Our 20 acre site provides live training situations, including Search & Rescue Maze, Confined Space, 3 Storey Burn Tower, Flashover Unit, Survivor Unit, Shower Facility, Education Hall, 4 Classrooms and a Cafeteria.
